Yes...one of my biggest fears came true, well close to true anyway. It was a race day..and I was in great spirits! Beautiful sunny weather, the kids were in a great mood, we had our niece and nephew over the night prior and got to enjoy some time with them, all was PERFECT.....too perfect for my luck. I was out by the first turn on the track where I get some great pictures ( I take pictures to ease my anxiety ) and Travis was doing GREAT! Racing the pro class , very stable on the bike. Lap 3 comes around and Travis was making a pass and the bikes collided...all I remember was seeing my soul mate..the man I am supposed to grow old with...flying in the air and then his lifeless body slamming into the ground right in front of me. I was HORRIFIED! I ran right to him and he was out, I was scared...very scared. Then he woke up but was clinging to his chest gasping for air. The paramedics came and we rode to the hospital, as I paced the emergency room floor I could hear my husband gasping in pain as they inserted a chest tube. After some X-rays we discovered he broke his clavicle bone, cracked his ribs and had a collapsed lung. I actually breathed a sigh of relief...he was going to live, no broken neck , no long term injuries. After 4 days in the hospital he got to go home and relax..well Travis NEVER really relaxes but he has been resting more than normal...
The past week has been long. It has been hard on everyone in our family. The good thing is we are a strong family, we are a team and we love each other. We will get through this just like anything else, I guess the moral of this story is... sometimes your the windshield, and sometimes your the bug. This go around Trav was the bug and that makes me the wipers I guess, cleaning up the smashed broken bug off the dirt bike track. Hey you gotta have a sense of humor sometimes...
